Cheap Car hire from Tromso Airport

Tromso Airport in Norway is the main airport of Tromso and its Arctic environs and is located just a 20 minute drive in your rental car from Tromso city centre. The city lies roughly 350km north of the Arctic Circle, meaning that not only is it a place of outstanding glacial beauty, it experiences both the midnight sun and polar night. Between late April and mid August there is no real darkness, and from November to January the sun remains below the horizon meaning a perpetual twilight - often quite beautiful due to the dusky blue hue.

      Things to see in tromso

The extreme geographical location of Tromso means that there is much in the way of natural phenomena to astound and delight tourists. Those with budget constraints may not have the funds for expensive winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding, but the true draw of Tromso lies in its naturally occurring beauty - free for all to enjoy. Tromso lies in the middle of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights zone and as such it is a prime destination for viewing this amazing anomaly - just don't expect to see anything between late April and Mid August.

      Things to do in tromso

The Polar Museum in Tromso city centre displays Tromso's history as a centre for Arctic hunting and starting point for pioneer Arctic expeditions. The wooden Tromso Cathedral is worth seeing, as is Norway's oldest cinema - still in use, it is a cheap and interesting attraction, featuring large wall paintings completed in 1921. The Polaria aquarium is interesting and carries a low cost of admission, and the Tromso Museum is interesting in its presentation of the culture and nature of North Norway. It also has an Arctic-alpine botanic garden with a cable car that will bring you up to Mount Storsteinen for a panoramic view over Tromso.

      Nightlife out in Tromso

The in Tromso is surprising in its diversity and vibrancy, with a huge amount of cheap and free festivals being held in the city every year. Clubs, pubs and bars are widespread, with an eclectic selection of musical tastes being catered to. There are exclusive spots with prices to match - the bar at the top of the SAS Hotel is an example (although the view offered makes the increased price a little easier to take). You can easily have a good time on a budget - keep an eye out for discount deals in pubs and bars and look for less up market joints if you want to pay less for your drinks.

      Eating out in Tromso

Eating out is an interesting experience here, particularly for fans of seafood, as this constitutes the main source of nutrition for Norwegians in this Arctic region. Prawns and other shellfish were traditionally used as bait here, however the most succulent and fresh shellfish has begum to appear as 'human' food, and at a wonderfully low cost. Feasting on the freshest, plumpest shellfish is a joy not often experienced by those traveling on a budget! Expect to see some strange additions to menus - whale, seal and reindeer may be offered. Be open minded when dining here - the food is as much a part of Tromso culture and lifestyle as anything.
