Things to See/Do in East Midlands

The East Midlands region is made up of 6 counties; Rutland,Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. The region offers a diverse blend of stunning rural landscape, traditional seaside resorts, charming market towns and lively, modern cities. There is something to suit all tastes and preferences, as well as all budgets. Clubbing, hiking, eating out, fishing, shopping, sightseeing, cycling… the choice of activities and attractions is wonderful, with a great selection of cheap and low cost options for the budget traveler.

There are a number of historical sites and buildings that make for interesting trips with East Midlands car hire, including the fabulous medieval cathedral in Lincoln, noteworthy for its breathtakingly intricate exterior. Belvoir Castle is another truly stunning building, boasting a beautiful painted ceiling along with a wealth of artwork - however there is such a fantastic selection of wonderful buildings throughout the region that it is best to do some research before your visit, and decide what you would most like to see. These generally carry a low cost of admission and are a lovely way to spend a day, particularly when the weather is fine as many have lovely gardens.

The Nottingham area is perhaps best known as the home of Robin Hood, and indeed there is a 'Tales of Robin Hood' centre which offers an interesting insight into the 'real' story of Robin Hood (as well as a great medieval banquet). There is also a Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre offering more Robin Hood-themed attractions.
