Pisa, of leaning tower fame, has always been much more than the symbol that represents it and started life as a port! The Leaning Tower of Pisa is located in the ‘Field of Miracles’ alongside the famous Duomo, Baptistery and Camposanto Monumentale. Galileo Galilei is the city’s most famous child; he studied in the local university. The Botanical Gardens (oldest in Europe), banks of the River Arno, churches and university are the places to get steeped in local history. For shopping head to the Via Santa Maria and Borgo Stretto, busy streets lined with great shops and boutiques.
