Driving Advice

Throughout the world, every hour, thousands of people are killed in motor vehicle accidents. It is impossible to influence what driver's around you are doing but you can take precautions to minimise the risks to your own safety.
Allow yourself time to adjust to the new vehicle and local driving rules.
Carry relevant driving documents i.e. international license, insurance details.
Ensure your vehicle with the necessary equipment.
Seat belts must be worn front and back.
Drive on the correct side of the road.
Do not speed.
Note local warning signs.
Take caution at roundabouts esp. when driving on the other side of the road.
Do not drink alcohol and drive.
Beware when driving on small country roads.
Stop and take rest when tired.
Motorists generally drive the same route at the same time every day, usually in urban areas with plenty of traffic and slower speeds. Conditions may be very different in holiday destinations, with different driving rules, different driver practises and varying weather conditions.

Driving through the countryside

Small country roads can be difficult to navigate with unexpected obstacles around every corner.
There may be agricultural machinery, farm animals, slippery surfaces, thick roadside foliage and people walking on the narrow roads.
At all times take care, keep your distance from agricultural vehicles and drive within the speed limit.
Be courteous to the local population avoid using the car horn and give way when necessary.
Don't speed through small towns and villages.
Stop to appreciate the new surroundings, you may meet some interesting local people for a completely different experience.
Some of the best times are to be had during the journey and rushing to the destination may mean missing out on the less well-known attractions and the special moments that will remain with you for years to come.

Driving through the city

Driving in the major cities can be very daunting with traffic darting from hidden streets and drivers more vocal that what you usually experience at home.
Go with the general flow of traffic, keep to the speed limit and watch for helpful signs.
When parking, remove maps, documents and precious items from sight.
Do not leave anything valuable in the car such as your passport, electrical equipment.
Ask around for parking restrictions to avoid being clamped and towed.

Leave on time when setting out on a journey; try to have at least part of your route planned. By being on time, there is no compulsion to rush; planning your route will at least give some idea of what to expect i.e. landmarks and settlements. Above all, enjoy the journey, the freedom that car travel offers and the experience of seeing something new.
