      Birmingham International Airport is located just over 10km south east of Birmingham city. It is the sixth busiest airport in the UK, after the four main London Airports and Manchester Airport. Its modernization over recent years has seen it become a trendy, energetic and cosmopolitan city with an abundance of amenities to entertain tourists of every age and to suit every budget.

      There is also great opportunity to escape the urban jungle with a visit to Cannon Hill Park. This large park lies south of the city and boasts tennis facilities, bowling areas, lakes for boating and plenty of lovely green space. Nearby is Sarehole Mill – fans of JRR Tolkein may like to visit here, the Authors childhood home said to be his inspiration for ‘Hobbiton’. For a different experience, take a taxi-boat ride on Birmingham’s extensive canal network.

      For dining out, Birmingham is famous for its curry-houses and there is massive scope for finding cheap, excellent curries all over the city. Great news for curry-fans, but don’t worry if this isn’t to your taste – there are of course plenty of other options for dining out, with something to suit every palate and budget - from low cost cafés and bistros to Michelin starred establishments. You could even skip dessert and instead take a trip to the Cadburys Factory, Birmingham’s answer to Willy Wonka’s!

      Nightlife in Birmingham

      Nightlife in the city is superb – Birmingham is crammed with bars, pubs, clubs and theatres. Broad Street is at the centre of the action with a huge choice of venues. Nights out can be cheap or expensive, depending on where you want to go, so if you are trying to go for a cheap break, bear your budget in mind when going out.

      The city of Birmingham has experienced a dramatic facelift with new developments as well as renovations and refurbishments all over the city, and there is more to attract tourists here than ever.
