While Lisbon is certainly an interesting city and well worth some exploration, it is unlikely that you will need to spend more than a few days discovering the sights and attractions in this Portuguese capital. 1. Obidos - Fatima.

Obidos lies around 100km north of Lisbon. It is a quaint medieval walled town, filled with colourful geraniums and carefully preserved medieval architecture. Narrow cobbled streets are bordered by small, terracotta-roofed and whitewashed houses, and the stores sell all manner of local handicrafts. The fortified town is picture-postcard perfect, and really gives a sense of having been transported back in time. As you wander around the town seeing the castle (which has been renovated on the inside into a luxury hotel), the churches, and the exhibits of the Municipal Museum, revel in the tranquility and peaceful ambience of a town that time seems to have thankfully forgotten.

Batalha should be the next stop on your itinerary, where you can see the Santa Maria de Vitoria Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 3. Sintra

Another possible and popular day trip from the city of Lisbon is a tour of the stunning coastal Sintra region.
