For a totally different (and, some would say more enjoyable) experience of Belfast's history, the famous Crown Liquor Saloon is an opulently decorated and delightfully authentic gin palace with a wonderful atmosphere and sense of the past.

Walking in a city is often the best way to get a real feel for the place, and it's particularly nice when the city offers a respite from the concrete and glass of an urban jungle. The beautiful Botanic Gardens in Belfast are a delight to visit, particularly when the weather is fine. If scenery, greenery and leisurely strolls are to your taste, there is a great choice of public parks at your disposal in the city (check out Grovelands).

For panoramic views of the city and beyond, hop in your rental car and take a drive to the Cave Hill Country Park. Covering part of the Belfast Hills, this huge area has numerous walking and hiking paths as well as 5 Neolithic caves that can be accessed. The park is a wonderful day trip in itself, made even better for those traveling on a budget as it is admission free. An adventure playground in the park will keep kids happy, and admission is cheap so the budget conscious needn't panic here either!

The culinary experience in Belfast has improved greatly with the city's rebirth, with a fantastic selection of restaurants open throughout the city sure to please gastronomes. The Odyssey Arena is also worth visiting, a massive 10,000 seat arena and entertainment complex hosting an Imax theatre as well as clubs, eateries, bars, bowling and much more.
