Car Hire Pisa Airport
If you are planning a trip to visit the stunning Italian region of Tuscany, it is well advised to ‘lean’ towards Pisa while you are there. The Galilei Galileo Airport in Pisa is practically in the city center, and is used by many budget and low cost airlines. Of course, the famous emblem of the city is the Leaning Tower, and is obviously first stop on the tourist trail for the majority of people who visit Pisa. It can be found, along with Pisa’s two other architectural wonders – the Duomo and the Baptistery – in the northwest of the city on the ‘Campo Dei Miracoli’ or ‘Field of Miracles’ (and who can resist a name like that).
Being the exquisitely beautiful and phenomenally famous sight that it is, the area is usually teeming with people throughout the day. As such, sunrise or sunset can be the best times to visit the piazza – avoid the souvenir stands and throngs of people and allow yourself to be humbled by the beauty that surrounds you in relative peace and quiet. There is a cost to enter the buildings, however it is quite cheap and a combination ticket can be bought which includes the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Cemetry, and the two museums in the area. The Tower is not included and costs €15 to climb.
Of course there is much more to see in Pisa than the Campo Dei Miracoli – the splendor of the city extends far beyond its most famous and iconic sight. If you have ever experienced ‘New York Neck’, be prepared for the same feeling after walking around Pisa for the afternoon – you are almost guaranteed to be gawking upwards all day as you take in the buildings! Nonetheless, as you stroll around the city the visual beauty, the sun hot on your skin, the sounds of a bustling Italian city, and the heady aromas of Tuscan cuisine and Italian Arno river for a different perspective on the city’s architecture and for some more panoramic views. Cheap operators can be found and the tour usually lasts for about an hour.
Pisa is full of nice places to eat, many of them quite inexpensive (to cater for the large student population in the city), but with a range to suit every budget. There are also endless cafés and Gelaterias where you can have a caffeine or ice cream pick-me-up as you wander the city.

When you rent a car from Argus Car Hire, not only are getting great value with our guaranteed low cost, fully inclusive prices, but you will also have the freedom and flexibility to explore your destination in your own time and without any further expense or cost to your budget.
Tuscany is an idyllic Italian region, encompassing a multitude of quintessentially Italian delights - delicious Chianti and Montepulciano wines, wonderfully preserved hilltop towns, fabulous cuisine and friendly Italian people, all set against a stunning Italian landscape and azure skies. The region offers a number of superb day trips and excursions to make during your Tuscany holiday - the following are two of the best, and are easily done from the beautiful Tuscan city of Pisa.
A DAY IN THE CHIANTI
The famous wine region of the Chianti lies between Florence and Siena in the Tuscany region of Italy. Take a wine tasting tour of the region by driving the Chiantigiana Wine Road and stopping in the quaint winemaking villages along the way (remember, whoever is driving should be careful to limit their consumption!). You will reach Greve, which is the principal town of the Chianti region and has a delightful weekly market in the main square. Stop for lunch here in a restaurant or café, or if you are being thrifty/sticking to a budget you could perhaps buy cheap but delicious Italian picnic staples in a local shop and have a low cost lunch al fresco.
If you think there are still more wines that you want to taste, then keep going - but if your driver has had enough of ferrying passengers around and wants to drink some wine his/herself, head back towards Pisa with any purchases you have made and enjoy!
SAN GIMIGNANO & SIENA
The enchanting medieval town of San Gimignano lies just over 80km from Pisa, on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding country. The town is notable for the numerous tall towers piercing its skyline, a famous landmark feature in the area and one of Italy's most unusual and fascinating architectural sights. Spend a morning wandering around the old walls of the city, taking photos of the towers, and relishing the peaceful atmosphere and astounding scenery.
From here you can drive to Siena town, the heart of Tuscany. See the town's gorgeous and remarkably well preserved gothic architecture, and be sure to visit the Duomo and Campo - likened to a large concave scallop shell - where the annual Palio (horse race) is held in July and August.
The town's situation on a somewhat y-shaped ridge means that it spreads into bordering valleys and has narrow, steep streets. It also offers superb panoramas of the surrounding Tuscan countryside, including Monte Amiata, the town of Asciano and the area of Montagnola. North is the wine-producing Chianti region. There are many great places to eat in Siena, most offering great value - cheap/low cost menus, generous portions and authentic and delicious Tuscan cuisine - perfect for tourists who want to eat on a budget.
