Italy Guide
Italy, no matter what the season, has all the components for a break away from it all. From the sweeping snow-capped Italian Alps in the north of the country to the sun baked Amalfi Coast in the south, it is the charm of the Italy that encourages visitors back year after year. This is the land of the divine, the decadent and by the end of the trip, visitors will have had an everlasting taste of ‘la dolce vita’ (The Good Life).
Beaches, alpine scenes, speeding mopeds, passionate soccer fans, 'beautiful' fashionable people strolling the streets and huddled black-clad widows making their way to church, are just some of the more familiar sights of the country. Travellers to Italy will learn that there is more, all it takes is a little bit of adventurous spirit, make the effort to talk with the locals and then find out the hidden gems.
Enjoy world-class skiing in the Italian Alpine towns- Turin will be the destination for thousands of competitors when in 2006 the Winter Olympics are held in Italy for the second time. The famous Venetian 'Teatro La Fenice' has been rebuilt after a fire razed it to the ground and is now a great place for lovers of opera; visitors can enjoy the sights of St. Mark's Square and the Bridge of Sighs; wander around the Uffizi Gallery in Florence for wonderful cultural delights; shop in the fantastic covered malls next to the Milan Cathedral and watch a football game at the San Siro Stadium for a taste of soccer, Italian style.
Italy is the natural home of cultural exploration, the development of fine art, sculpture and the appreciation of the finer things in life; all the visitor need do is enjoy, seek out the hidden treasures and have no fear of exploration. As with all destinations, please check with the local tourist offices for complete updates and opening times.
