The Galway Arts Festival, held every July, brings tens of thousands of visitors from around the world to Galway City for two weeks of fun, frolics and artistic antics. The streets are filled with fantastical costumes and giant sized puppets and people enjoying the magical atmosphere. This is an excellent time to visit Galway.

The Cuirt International Festival of Literature, held every April, is celebration of all things literary. There are many readings, performances, workshops, films and theatre programmes held over the week by professional and enthusiasts alike. This has become an internationally renowned event with authors and writers from all over the world coming to the city to discuss their work with the interested public.

The International Oyster Festival was originally started as a means to extend the tourism season in Galway- it's worked! This is a great excuse for enjoying copious amounts of oysters accompanied by pints of Guinness over a long weekend. People come from all over the world to enjoy the events held around the city. Started in the 1950s this has become a major event for the city.

The Galway Races Summer Festival is a favourite racing event for people from all sections of Irish society. Hundreds of thousands of people come to the Ballybrit racecourse over the week to splash out on the 'sure winners' and enjoy the great atmosphere. The popularity of the event has grown rapidly in recent decades and far outstrips the original event that began in the 1800s.
