Galway Art Guide

Galway is regarded as Ireland's city of culture as far as the residents and most of the thousands of visitors that come here each year are concerned. The streets and venues around the city buzz with artistic displays, concerts and dance performances throughout the year.

Galway Arts Centre is located on Dominic Street and was once the home of Lady Gregory, a patron to the world famous poet W.B Yeats. Performances, exhibitions, concerts and the International Festival of Literature are all part of the work on offer.

The Kenny Gallery, located on High Street, is an unusual place. Attached to a bookshop, the contemporary artwork including sculpture, oil paintings and other mediums are on display here. Many of the pieces are for sale making the gallery an exciting destination for visitors with an interest in Irish contemporary art.

The Clifden Art Gallery, located in Clifden, a town further west of the city, is notable because of the usual area it is located and the fine work on exhibit and for sale here. Opened in the early 1990s the gallery is a fascinating stop off when visitors are on their way further west.
