Dublin Guide

Dublin is located on the sheltered east coast of Ireland and is the capital and administrative centre of the country. Recent economic boom and immigration has brought about the development of this exciting cosmopolitan capital. The River Liffey divides the city as it travels east to Dublin Bay. Along the quays of the river, a boardwalk provides an excellent location for a stroll away from the busy traffic.

The city's history dates back to Celtic times; having developed a vibrant trading port here, Viking immigrants stayed, married the locals and named the city Dubh Linn meaning Black Pool. Dvblinia tells the story of the past by recreating street scenes with actors, sounds, smells and informative multimedia displays. Christ Church Cathedral, located on a hill south of the river, dates back to the early 10th century. The National Museum displays decorative arts and their history at Collins Barracks; Trinity College is home to the Book of Kells; The Chester Beatty Library has an eclectic collection of sacred manuscripts including some from Islamic, Buddhist and Christian traditions. It is easy to find things to see in this city, from the historical sites to some fantastic events and performances at one of the abundance of music and theatre venues. Check out the local press for further details.
