Cheap Car Hire in Phuket Airport
Just off the the west coast of southern Thailand lies the massively popular tourist destination of Phuket, a large island in the Andaman Sea that boasts some gorgeous tropical beaches, mind-boggling sunsets, beautiful national parkland, and a diverse and often riotous nightlife. Even more of an incentive to visit the island of Phuket is the low cost of accommodation, cheap food and great value tourist attractions/activities, making Phuket an ideal location to enjoy a tropical holiday on a tight budget.
The island is inclusive in its allure, with something to suit almost anyone – partygoers and pilgrims, beach-bums and honeymooners, kids and 80 year olds alike will be sure to find something to suit their penchants and their budgets. Despite being hit hard by the devastation caused after the 2006 tsunami, the island has bounced back with a sense of optimism and community that must be admired – in fact there is little evidence left of the catastrophic damage caused by the disaster.

Things to see/do in Phuket, Thailand
The independence and liberty that goes hand in hand with low cost car rental from Argus Car Hire means that exploration of the island of Phuket can be enjoyed on your terms and at your leisure. A drive along the south coast of Phuket, between Pronthep Point and Kata Beach, provides some stunning scenery – and with a total driving time of less than an hour, means there is plenty of time for you to stop at different viewpoints and rest ares to take in the beauty of the area. A drive along the north coast can uncover some superb and often desolate coastline, allowing you to spend time sunbathing and swimming on your own ‘private’ tropical beach.
The national parks of Phuket are filled with great walking trails that offer tourists an up-close and personal rainforest experience, and are well worth seeing. Similarly, a short boat trip to the nearby Phang-Nga Bay to swim and see the truly spectacular rock formations and awesome scenery is cheap and very worthwhile activity available from Phuket.
The Night Market in Phuket Town is understandably popular – a colourful and extensive array of Thai food, exotic fruits and vegetables, and other local items can be bought at an incredibly low cost – perfect for bargain-hunting on a budget. Sellers expect you to haggle for discount prices and ‘special’ rates, and while this is all part of the fun, the prices are so cheap to begin with that it is not necessary to haggle too much.
Eating out/nightlife in Phuket
Thai massage in Phuket is an absolute must. Spas offer hour-long (and longer) Thai massage for shockingly cheap prices – they can be somewhat borderline pleasure/pain at times, but afterwards you experience whole new levels of relaxation. At just a few euros for an hour or more of being bent and stretched every which way, you should certainly allow for at least one in your budget.
Phuket, like most places in Thailand, is a cheap place to eat. Some restaurants are better than others, with many having an almost ‘fawlty towers’ feel about them (i.e. meals ordered at the same time being brought out hours apart, and then not being what was originally ordered), however at these times it is helpful to take a tip from the Thai people and remain good-natured about it. After all, when the meals are as cheap as in Thailand, it is difficult to complain about them – and remember, many of the ‘farang-friendly’ meals on offer in the restaurants are not what the Thai chefs are used to cooking, and can sometimes take longer.
The Thai green and red curries are aromatic and wonderfully flavourful, and are usually a good choice. Your best bet in general is to eat Thai food, particularly if you are trying to eat on a budget – it is definitely the cheap option, and often cooked the best. When in Phuket….
